Unpublished Scrape Edges

The back of each Boye knife is ground to form two sharp 90 degree angles, creating tough edges for scraping.  The scrape edges can be used to scrape paint, plastic, fiberglass, wood, or most other rough surfaces, including rust on metal.

Although scraping (sideways cutting) can be done with the blade edge, it will make it dull.  The geometry of the cutting edge is designed to cut through something, not drag across something. Though not as sharp as the blade, the square scrape edges are tough and can handle a lot of pressure pulling sideways so you don't need to put your blade through it. They will do a lot of scraping before they get dull.

For the Pointed Tip Folders and Basics, the combination of the blade edge and the scrape edges work in tandem to drill holes in wood, plastic, hard rubber, and fiberglass.

The scrape edges can be sharpened on the same whetstone as the blade, and take a new edge quickly.
